This summer’s Tongass BBQ Parties will be a great way to both educate and motivate concerned citizens about why wild salmon need a wild Tongass. Our new Tongass video tells the story of our Tongass National Forest through the voices of the citizens of southeast Alaska. Just as important, this movie will compel the viewers to do something, to take action, to make a difference. And by accompanying the new video with tasty wild salmon from our Tongass, folks will understand the direct connection and impact they can have in conserving and restoring our nation’s largest national forest. So when you host a Tongass barbeque, you should be ready to ask your peers after the movie to do something, like write a letter to their members of Congress—a sample letter will be provided that folks can use as a guide.

The type of get-together you have depends on you. It can be an after dinner party, a Saturday afternoon barbecue, or a block party. The key isn’t the setting. It’s letting people know not only what is at stake, but also that they can have a big impact, whoever they are.

Alaska Wilderness League will provide a complete packet of materials to help you plan and host an effective party. In addition, the League has secured discounts with producers in southeast Alaska so you can purchase your salmon directly from southeast Alaska fishermen. If you need financial assistance for your salmon purchase, please let us know at the time you contact us for your packet—the League may be able to supplement your purchase.
