Take Action
There are many ways to get involved in the planning process. And depending on the current stage of the plan there may be more opportunity to get involved than others.
Because these are Federal lands any U.S. citizen can take part in the process, whether you live in Alaska or not. It is important to do so. Alaska has greater potential for preservation of large tracts of un-fragmented habitat than anywhere else in the United States.
Action Opportunities:
- The Ring of Fire Record of Decision (ROD) was issued on March 21, 2008. There will be a 90 day comment period for reconsidering the Haines Block as an Area of Critical Envrionmental Concern (ACEC). Meetings are not yet scheduled. Interested people can receive updates through BLMs Fairbanks field office.
- Eastern Interior RMP: This plan is currently in the pre-planning phase with scoping meetings to begin in April 10, the first meeting will be in Anchorage. This is an opportunity to attend meetings and contact the Fairbanks BLM field office and let them know the places within the planning area that are important to you.
- East Alaska RMP: The Record of Decision (ROD) was released September 7, 2007. BLM is currently working on certain portions of the implementation with opportunities to participate in 2008. Meetings and comments periods to be posted. For more information contact the Glenallen field office.
- At any time, informal letters can be submitted to BLM field offices to provide information for RMPs that may have been missed or overlooked.
