August is salmon season in Southeast Alaska. In celebration of the season a month-long exhibit featuring the stunning works of Amy Gulick, an award-winning nature photographer, will be exhibited in Juneau, Alaska. The images are from Amy’s new book Salmon in the Trees: Life in Alaska’s Tongass Rain Forest which Salmon in the Trees tells the remarkable story of the Tongass National Forest, where trees grow salmon, and salmon grow trees. The Tongass is one of the rarest ecosystems on Earth – Gulick portrays a hopeful story of a national treasure worth conserving.
On Friday, August 6, 2010, Alaska Wilderness League will host an opening reception from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Silverbow, Backroom Gallery. Amy will be available to answer questions.

For a second year the Minnesota Renaissance Festival is hosting: Bird organizations, charities, specialty stores, schools, nature parks, camera and optical companies, artists, photographers and more! This festival within the Festival will be an opportunity for Renaissance Festival patrons to learn everything about our feathered friends in one location; which, in turn, provides exhibitors the opportunity to spread knowledge about their organization to enthusiasts.
Stop by the Alaska Wilderness League booth to learn about Minnesota’s connection to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge through the birds we see in our backyards. Countless birds follow the Mississippi Flyway from Minnesota to the Alaskan Arctic and back again each year. We are celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the part that it plays in the lives of so many birds that journey throughout all 50 states and six continents. The Refuge’s Coastal Plain, a vital habitat for some of the world’s most beloved birds as well as caribou, polar bears and more, has been under threat from oil and gas development for many years. Come learn about birds, the Arctic Refuge, planting Arctic Gardens and celebrating the Refuge through Arctic Garden Parties!
